Northwell Long Island Jewish Science Program

In 2007, IS 59 and North Shore established a partnership to develop and cultivate the inquisitive minds of our students interested in the field of Science. Under the direction and guidance of Ms. Young, the program has flourished and grown in ways we initially had not expected. Our students continuously demonstrated their desire to be an active participate in the wave of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math that has taken over our world.

Through the creation of hands on and minds on learning our scholars are exposed to learning which develops the knowledge, attitude, and skills necessary to support the health profession for the following departments such as but not limited to:

  • Endocrinology
  • Neurology
  • Nutrient
  • Immunology
  • Respiration
  • Forensics
  • Maternity
  • Cardiology
  • Radiology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Oncology

The competitive program is offered to our 8th grade students only. Each year, 15 core students and 5 alternate students are accepted into the program. Selection criteria for the program include an interview process, an oral presentation and teacher recommendations.

Students who are interested in applying may see Ms. Young in room 100 for an application.
